Farmers First buys Wrexham abattoir Fairfield Meats


Wrexham-based abattoir Fairfield Meats has been bought by a co-operative of farmers to expand production of lamb for UK and overseas markets.Farmers First already owns an abattoir at Kenilworth, Warwickshire.The Wrexham site, which will trade as Farmers Fresh Wales, will start production in January. The deal was announced at the Royal Welsh Winter Fair at Llanelwedd, Builth Wells, Powys, on Monday.Chairman Terry Bayliss said: “We have long held an aspiration to process stock in Wales and today’s announcement brings this to fruition.”Farmers First, which was set up in 1998 to promote demand for British lamb, is owned by more than 2,700 farmer shareholders, with about 1,100 in Wales.
