An historic 1947 replica of the Queen’s wedding cake from the same year has been given a hi-tech reconstruction after vandals smashed it.Bermondsey bakers Peek Frean made the original six-tier cake for the occasion – 70 years ago on Monday – along with a full-size replica for its factory. In 2015, while in a museum where it had been on display, the replica cake was broken and covered in paint. But thanks to a 3D scan by the University of Warwick and handiwork by the British Sugarcraft Guild, the cake has been restored. It is set to go on display at the end of November at Peek Frean’s own museum at its former factory.
